I met up with Paul when my business moved from a "one man band" to a larger commercial enterprise. His advice was invaluable right from the start and enabled me to devise a clear business strategy. Now in year three of the programme we measure results against quarterly targets and I'm building tangible value within the business.

The 7 year plan is for the business to become my commodity, with the aim of selling or for it to provide me with an ongoing income stream (pension), without my direct input when I reach the ripe old age of 50.

The sessions I have with Paul are often very challenging (and sometime quite an emotional journey) as they force you to think strategically about your business and how you interact with it. Often the observations are surprising, sometimes they are more obvious.

Interestingly, Paul helps tease out ideas that have been running through my head for weeks/months and his programme enables me to formulate measurable objectives from these, often quite nebulous, thought processes.I now really understand and believe that business is a process.

My company is there to provide me with both an income and a capital value. I aim to detach myself from my business; let it be the brand - not me! So it can continue to be my cash pot for years after I have no more direct involvement with the day to day operations.

Without Paul's direct involvement I might never have made these basic connections and could be slaving away aged 60 with no real value in the balance sheet and no clear exit plan.
